The White Sox released Wade on Monday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Wade had attended spring training with the White Sox, but he was cut loose before the end of camp after being informed that he wouldn't be included on the Opening Day roster. The 32-year-old first baseman re-signed with Chicago on a new minor-league deal shortly thereafter but was unable to earn a promotion despite slashing .250/.420/.441 with seven home runs over 201 plate appearances at Triple-A Charlotte. Wade shouldn't have much trouble securing a new contract in free agency, though his lack of defensive flexibility could result in him having to settle for another minor-league deal.

The White Sox signed Wade to a minor-league contract Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

EDGE Analysis

Wade felt apart in 2025, finishing with a lowly .167/.271/.254 batting line across 80 games between the Giants and Angels. He was a career .246/.351/.411 hitter prior to that and is just 32 years of age, so it's reasonable to think he could rebound in 2026. Wade has primarily played first base the last few years but also has plenty of outfield experience, and Chicago's outfield is wide open for playing time.

The Angels released Wade on Saturday, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

The Halos will move on from Wade after he slashed just .169/.260/.215 through 73 plate appearances with the team. The 31-year-old will now look to latch on with another organization, though he may need to settle for a minor-league contract in order to land an opportunity elsewhere.

Wade went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 8-2 win over the Phillies.

Wade entered the game after Nolan Schanuel (wrist) was hit by a pitch in the first inning and responded with his first three-hit performance of the season, highlighted by a 422-foot homer in the sixth. The 31-year-old bench piece is now slashing .178/.282/.269 with two home runs, 18 RBI, 18 runs scored and one steal across 229 plate appearances this season and could see an uptick in playing time if Schanuel is forced to miss time.

Wade is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.

Since being acquired from the Giants on June 8, Wade has gone 5-for-33 (.152 average) with one stolen base and no extra-base hits through his first 14 games with the Halos.

Wade is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

The left-handed-hitting Wade will hit the bench for the series finale while the Nationals send southpaw Mitchell Parker to the hill. Wade had been included in the lineup in each of the Angels' last six games -- five of which came against right-handed pitchers -- and went 4-for-19 with three walks, one stolen base and four runs.

Wade -- who has gone 4-for-23 with one stolen base, three runs and a 1:10 BB:K since joining the Halos -- will pick up his fifth start in six games Wednesday.

Wade was acquired via trade from the Giants over the weekend and is not eligible to be sent to the minors without being exposed to waivers, so he will go directly onto the big-league roster. It's not clear how much playing time Wade will receive initially, as his primary position, first base, is held down by Nolan Schanuel.
