Kay did not factor into the decision of Friday's extra-inning loss to the Guardians, when he allowed one run on one hit and two walks while striking out two across four innings.

Kay kept the Guardians in check for most of Friday's start outside of an RBI single to Travis Bazzana in the third inning. Kay tossed only 48 pitches (27 strikes), but his outing was cut short by a two-hour rain delay, resulting in Jordan Hicks and the White Sox's bullpen taking over in the fifth inning. Kay will take a 4.39 ERA and 1.39 WHIP over 84 innings into his next start, which is slated for next week at home against the Red Sox.

Kay (6-3) took the loss Sunday against the Royals, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits while striking out two and walking one over 3.2 innings.

Kay threw 44 of his 73 pitches for strikes and was unable to slow Kansas City's offense, allowing at least one run in every inning he pitched. The outing continued what has been an up-and-down season for the left-hander, who has alternated strong performances with difficult ones. After striking out eight over six scoreless innings in his previous start, Kay followed it up with Sunday's rough outing. He'll carry a 4.50 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 65:31 K:BB across 80 innings into a rematch against Cleveland, this time on the road.

Kay pitched well enough to earn the win Monday, recording a season-high eight strikeouts and not allowing an earned run for the third time this season, though bullpen troubles ultimately cost the southpaw a victory. The outing marked a positive step in the right direction for the 31-year-old, who entered with an 8.31 ERA and 1.62 WHIP across 13 innings in his first three starts of June. He'll take a 6-2 record with a 4.24 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 63:30 K:BB across 76.1 innings (16 appearances) into his next outing, which is lined up for the weekend against the Royals.

The Yankees immediately got all over Kay on Wednesday, tagging the hurler for a pair of runs in the first and second innings each. The 31-year-old left-hander continues to struggle to find the plate consistently -- he's now issued at least one walk in all 15 of his appearances and also hit at least one batter in five of his last seven starts. Kay has an uninspiring 4.61 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 55:28 K:BB over 70.1 innings, but he's next set to face a Cleveland lineup that will be without superstar Jose Ramirez (hand).

Kay (6-1) earned the win Friday against the Dodgers, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk across five innings. He struck out a season-high seven.

EDGE Analysis

Kay had given up six runs on seven hits (including two homers) in his previous start at Philadelphia, but he bounced back admirably against one of the best offenses in baseball. That outing against the Phillies was an outlier, though, as Kay has given up two earned runs or fewer in all but one of his last eight starts (41.1 innings), posting a 3.27 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over that stretch. Kay is slated to make his next start on the road against the Yankees.

Kay will have to wait another day to return to the mound after Thursday's contest against Atlanta was postponed due to rain.

Kay was set to start Thursday's series finale against Atlanta, but he will now likely take the mound in Friday's series opener against the Dodgers. The left-hander is coming off of a disappointing outing against the Phillies on June 5, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four batters over four innings. Unfortunately for him and fantasy managers alike, Los Angeles is by no means an easier matchup.
