Updating an earlier item, Browns DE Marcus Benard broke his hand, not his arm, in the motorcycle accident he was in on the way home from practice on Monday.
This takes the injury out of the season-ending range and puts him in the week-to-week category, for now. He has been underutilized so far, so his absence isn't going to change the dynamic of the Browns defense too much.

Browns DE Marcus Benard suffered a broken arm in a motorcycle accident on his way away from Monday's practice.
He's been transferred to the Cleveland Clinic for further evaluation, but a broken arm is a season-threatening injury for the situational pass rusher. The best news is that Benard avoided truly serious injuries. Benard was underutilized in the first four games, averaging only about 10 snaps per week. He did have one special teams tackle, three more on defense, and a half-sack.

Browns DE Marcus Benard was rushed to the hospital Monday afternoon after crashing his motorcycle into the wall of a Cleveland-area interstate.
Benard is believed to have been on his way home from practice when the accident occurred. A local hospital confirmed he is a patient, but has yet to release his condition. Local FOX reporter John Telich reports Benard's injuries are "serious, but not life threatening." Benard has been a rotational pass rusher this season, notching three tackles and one sack in four games.

Browns nickel pass rusher Marcus Benard showed up to camp 20 pounds heavier than his listed weight of 256.
Browns DC Dick Jauron indicated that he wasn't totally pleased with the weight gain because Benard won't play on early downs anyway. "He got a little heavier, but he really didn't have to because we're looking for speed there," Jauron said. When Benard gets in shape, he'll be Cleveland's No. 3 defensive end.
